Eclipses are the sky’s way of accelerating what was going to happen anyway, of clearing the path for what needs to come next, of making sudden and irreversible what had been building slowly beneath the surface.
On August 12th, 2026 at 10:37 am Pacific time, the third Solar Eclipse of the year rises in Leo. And this one is not quiet. It is not subtle. It is not asking you to ease into anything. This eclipse is the kickoff of an 18-month transformation cycle that will run through March 26th, 2028 — a complete reshaping of the Leo and Aquarius areas of your chart, your life, and the collective story we are all living together. The nodes of the moon switched to the Leo-Aquarius axis on July 26th, 2026. The South Node is now in Leo. The North Node is in Aquarius. And they will stay there until March 2028.
The South Node in Leo is the clearing engine of this 18-month cycle. The North Node in Aquarius is the direction of growth. This eclipse is the moment the engine ignites.
How The Lunar Nodes Of Destiny Create Eclipses
When the nodes switch signs, the collective story changes. But before we go into what this particular nodal shift means, I want to take a moment to explain something that confuses a lot of people: what the lunar nodes actually are, and how they create eclipses. The lunar nodes are not planets. They are points in space — the two points where the orbit of the Moon around the Earth intersects with the orbit of the Earth around the Sun. The North Node is the point where the Moon crosses from south to north. The South Node is the opposite point, where the Moon crosses from north to south.
Eclipses happen when the Sun and Moon are near these nodal points at the time of a New Moon or Full Moon. When the Sun and Moon align near the North or South Node, the Moon passes in front of the Sun and creates a Solar Eclipse. This is why eclipses do not happen every month — the nodes move slowly, taking about 18 months to transit each sign, and eclipses only occur when the luminaries are close enough to a nodal point for the alignment to create that shadow.
So the nodal axis and the eclipse are not two separate things. The eclipse is a product of the nodes. The nodes are the reason this particular New Moon is not just a New Moon — it is a Solar Eclipse.
The Astrological Meaning Of The How The Lunar Nodes Of Destiny
In astrology, the North Node marks the direction of growth — where energy comes in, where the future is being built, what we are collectively being asked to move toward. But in my years of practice, I have noticed that approximately thirty percent of the time, South Node activations bring things to the house the South Node transits — and this makes sense, because the South Node has a deep connection with the past. Gifts from the past, returns of what was lost, reconnections with what was once significant — these are genuine South Node possibilities. So be open to both: what is being removed is real, and so is what might be returning from a previous chapter of your life.
