What Happens When the Spell Lifts? 5 Neptune Retrograde Dates to Watch!

This is the transcript of my YouTube Video shown linked above.

Neptune Retrograde Dates 2026: July 7 – December 12, 2026 | 4°25’ to 1°36’ Aries

There is a moment in every astrological season when the sky pauses to ask: how much of what you have been seeing is actually real? Neptune is the planet of dreams, of illusion, of the dissolution of boundaries. It is the great hypnotist of the solar system — the force that makes the impossible feel believable, that wraps reality in a soft, otherworldly glow, that blurs the edges between what is true and what we wish were true.

When Neptune is moving direct, that hypnotic spell is active. We are under it without knowing we are under it. Art feels transcendent. Love feels fated. Vision feels like prophecy. And sometimes it is. But sometimes — often — the glow is Neptune doing what Neptune does: making things appear more luminous, more certain, more meant-to-be than they actually are. When Neptune goes retrograde, the spell begins to lift.

On July 7th, 2026, Neptune stations retrograde at 4 degrees and 25 minutes of Aries. And it will not station direct again until December 12th — 158 days later, at 1 degree and 36 minutes of Aries. For five and a half months, Neptune turns inward. The creative muse goes quiet. The hypnotic quality softens. And in its place arrives something rarer and more valuable: clarity. The kind of clarity that only comes when the glamour fades and you can finally see what has actually been there all along. In a summer already defined by the most significant astrological alignments in recorded history, Neptune retrograde is the invitation to make sure that what you are building is real — not just beautiful. That the vision you are following is genuinely yours — not a reflection of someone else’s dream. That the new world being constructed collectively is rooted in something true.

The Epic Saturn-Neptune Conjunction

When Neptune goes retrograde, it always asks us to review something. But in 2026, what it is asking us to review is not ordinary. At the beginning of this year, Saturn and Neptune formed a conjunction — two of the most powerful outer planets meeting in the sky at zero to one degrees of Aries. This conjunction happens only once every 35 years. The last time it occurred was in 1989, at the tail end of a decade defined by the collapse of old systems and the emergence of new ones.

The Saturn-Neptune conjunction of 2026 carried a specific and extraordinary collective theme: the dissolution of the foundations of our society in order to begin building new ones. At zero and one degrees of Aries — the very first degrees of the zodiac, the point of absolute beginning — Saturn and Neptune asked humanity to let the old structural reality dissolve so that something genuinely new could take its place.

We are in the middle of building a new world. Not metaphorically. Literally. The institutions, the systems, the collective agreements about how society is organized — all of it is in a process of dissolution and reconstruction that the Saturn-Neptune conjunction set in motion at the beginning of this year. Neptune retrograde is the review period of that process. It is the moment when the new world being built pauses to ask itself: is this actually what we intended? Are we building what we said we were going to build? Or has the vision drifted, imperceptibly, away from its original truth?

Saturn does not conjunct Neptune again during this retrograde. But they come close — drawn together in the Aries area of the sky by a remarkable collection of other bodies. Asteroids Pallas Athene and Vesta are both in Aries, and both will station retrograde during Neptune’s retrograde period. Pallas goes retrograde on August 14th. Vesta on August 25th. And retrograde Chiron, the wounded healer, re-enters Aries in retrograde motion on September 18th. What this means is that the Aries area of your chart — the house with Aries on the cusp in your natal chart — becomes a gathering point for retrograde, reviewing, inward-turning energy for months. The strategy of how you move forward, what you are devoted to, how old wounds shape the way you initiate, who you are becoming — all of it is under review simultaneously. This is a deep revision of how you take action, how you assert yourself, and what you are truly building your life around.

Neptune Retrograde And Barbault’s Basket

By the time Barbault’s Basket reaches its peak perfection in mid-July — when all four outer planets align at four degrees in the most significant astrological configuration of the century — Neptune will already be retrograde. This is worth sitting with. The most collectively significant cosmic event in recorded history is happening while Neptune, the planet of vision and illusion, is in its inward, truth-revealing phase. What this suggests is that what the Basket builds — the collective relaunch, the new architecture of civilization that Barbault described — may contain within it an element of revision. Of going back over something before it can truly go forward. Of making sure the dream is anchored in reality before it becomes the new reality. Neptune retrograde during Barbault’s Basket is not a shadow on the configuration. It is a gift. It is the quality control built into the most expansive moment of the year. The question it asks of everything being constructed right now: Is this true? Does this serve the actual vision? Is the foundation solid enough to hold what is being built on top of it?

Neptune Retrograde 2026 Key Dates

Neptune retrograde runs from July 7th through December 12th — but there are specific windows within that period when its energy becomes particularly concentrated. These are the dates to mark in your calendar.

July 14 — New Moon in Cancer

The New Moon at 21 degrees of Cancer arrives one week into Neptune retrograde. With the emotional, instinctive energy of Cancer amplified by the retrograde Mercury also in the sign, this New Moon is a particularly powerful moment for receiving Neptune’s retrograde gift: emotional clarity about what you have been seeing versus what is actually there in the most important relationships and home situations of your life.

August 5–16 — Venus in Libra Opposes Neptune

When Neptune goes retrograde, Venus in Libra opposes it between August 5th and August 16th — this is one of the most romantically clarifying windows of the entire transit. Venus rules love, beauty, values, and relationships. In Libra, she wants harmony, partnership, and the beautiful version of everything. Opposing retrograde Neptune, the rose-colored glasses come off. Relationships that have been sustained by projection, by idealization, by the soft glow of what you wished they were rather than what they are — this is the period when you see them clearly. This can be disorienting. It can also be deeply freeing. What you see clearly, you can choose consciously.

August 11–23 — Mars in Cancer Squares Neptune

This may be the most volatile window of Neptune’s entire retrograde period. Mars is the planet of action, desire, and assertion. In Cancer, it is emotionally driven, protective, and reactive. Squaring retrograde Neptune in Aries, the friction between the desire to act and the confusion about what is real becomes acute. This is a window for heightened emotional reactivity, for actions taken from an unclear emotional state, for the eruption of things that have been building beneath the surface. It is not a time for major decisions or confrontations. It is a time for patience, for sitting with the discomfort, for waiting until the fog clears before you act. What surfaces in this window is important information. How you respond to it determines what comes next.

September 10–15 — Mercury in Libra Opposes Neptune

Mercury’s opposition to retrograde Neptune brings the clarity into the realm of communication and information. Conversations that have been happening in a fog of assumption, of half-truths, of things left unsaid — this window illuminates them. It is also a period when information that was previously hidden or unclear becomes available. Read everything twice. Say what you actually mean. And be willing to hear what is actually being said rather than what you hoped was being said.

September 22–30 — Sun in Libra Opposes Neptune

The Sun’s opposition to retrograde Neptune is the identity clarification window. Who have you been performing yourself as, versus who you actually are? Where has the Neptune glamour been applied to your own self-presentation — the version of yourself you show to the world versus the one that exists when no one is watching? The Libra Sun wants to be seen favorably. Neptune retrograde is asking for the unfiltered version. This can feel like a stripping away. It is also an initiation into a more authentic expression of self.

September 26 — Full Moon in Aries

A Full Moon at 4 degrees of Aries lands directly on Neptune’s retrograde station degree. This is one of the most emotionally charged moments of the entire retrograde period. The Full Moon illuminates everything Neptune has been quietly dissolving and rebuilding since July. What has clarified? What has dissolved? What new beginning in the Aries area of your chart is now visible in a way it was not before? This Full Moon is an emotional reckoning with the truth of what the retrograde has been showing you.

Neptune Retrograde 2026 Most Affected Zodiac Signs

When Neptune goes retrograde, the cardinal signs — Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn — feel it most directly, particularly those with planets between 1 and 4 degrees of these signs. Neptune is moving through early Aries, opposing early Libra, squaring early Cancer and Capricorn. If you have significant placements in these degrees, this retrograde is speaking directly to your chart.

Capricorn placements between 1 and 4 degrees deserve special mention, and this is where I want to talk about the book. If you were born with Neptune between 1 and 4 degrees of Capricorn, you are now experiencing your waxing Neptune square — the moment when Neptune in the sky forms a 90-degree angle to your natal Neptune. This is a generational transit that happens to everyone born in your era simultaneously, and it marks a significant collective and personal awakening. The soft glow of your generation’s idealism is being tested by reality. What survives the square is what was always true.

And for those born with Neptune between 1 and 4 degrees of Libra — you are experiencing your Neptune opposition. This is the Neptune midlife transit, the moment when the planet of your generation’s vision and illusions stands directly across the sky from where it was when you were born. It is one of the most disorienting and ultimately liberating transits of a lifetime. Everything you have believed about love, about beauty, about how the world should be — it is all being held up to the light of what it actually is.

For both of these generational groups, my book Written in Your Stars is the guide I would put in your hands right now. It walks you through the Saturn cycle — and Saturn’s relationship to Neptune is the defining thread of this entire moment in history. Available at naramon.com/books and wherever books are sold.

How To Navigate Neptune Retrograde 2026

Neptune retrograde is not something to navigate around. It is something to move into. The practical guidance for this period is counterintuitive, because Neptune’s retrograde gifts are not loud. They arrive quietly — in a moment of sudden sobriety about a situation you had been romanticizing, in a creative block that turns out to be your intuition refusing to produce something that is not true, in the gradual fading of an illusion that you were not even aware you were holding.

First: let yourself be disillusioned. That word has a negative connotation, but disillusionment is literally the removal of illusion — which is always, ultimately, a gift. If something in your life is revealing itself as less luminous than you believed it to be, do not rush to restore the glow. Sit with what is actually there. It is more workable than the dream was.

Second: pay attention to what becomes clear about the Aries area of your chart. With so much retrograde energy gathering in Aries — Neptune, Pallas Athene, Vesta, Chiron — this is a multi-month invitation to honestly examine how you initiate, how you assert yourself, who you are becoming, and whether the direction you are moving in actually belongs to you or whether you have been following someone else’s definition of forward.

Third: protect your creative work during this period. With the muse in its retrograde, inward phase, this is not the time for major creative launches or public debuts. It is the time for the private work — the revision, the deepening, the return to the original inspiration before the execution got complicated. What you create in the quiet of Neptune retrograde often becomes the best work you have ever made.

Fourth: be especially careful in the volatile windows — particularly the Mars square in mid-August. When action and confusion collide, the wisdom is to pause. To feel. To wait. The clarity that comes after that window is worth the discomfort of sitting inside it.

Conclusion

Neptune retrograde is one of the most personally significant transits of 2026, and it runs all the way through December 12th — the same day Jupiter stations retrograde conjunct the South Node. The two biggest outer planet retrograde stations of the year land on the same day. That is not a coincidence. That is the sky asking for a serious and deep review.
